ALL ABOUT ACTING

and PUBLIC SPEAKING

7-week workshop

Master the essentials for a successful career no matter what field you have chosen!

All About Acting & Public Speaking is a unique course in that it teaches you everything you need to know before you step into a spotlight. The course will also dispel everything you think  you know about performing in public but are most likely mistaken.

Over the seven weeks of this class, you will learn from the bottom up, by which I mean that you will learn terminology, placement, breathing, posture and the importance of making a good first impression. You will learn how to introduce yourself and how to channel your emotions at the blink of an eye. You will learn to turn those emotions off even quicker.

One week of the course is dedicated to what I call our “Ice Breaker” night. If you are familiar with Toastmasters, that title should be known to you. For this class, you will be asked to write no more than a 10 minute talk about yourself which you will deliver in front of your classmates. I find these evenings to be rewarding on many levels, and I always feel privileged that people share their lives so openly.

The fifth and sixth weeks are dedicated to “timing.” If you have ever told a joke that fell flat, it was most likely due to poor timing. These two evenings are a lot of fun but also an eye opener into just how hard it is to do comedy.

There will be a lot of repetition in this course, which at first will have you questioning “what is the need.” In a very short time, you will understand the “need” to constantly refresh and retrain your brain to remember material that you will use for years to come.

The seventh week is an optional 2-hour improvisation class which we use to teach “think quick” skills often needed in any type of public situation. Improv works best after you learn basic acting skills. It can be a hindrance as a stand alone class.

All About Acting & Public Speaking is the best first step to a successful career as an actor, a motivational speaker, and/or any occupation that requires you to “state your case.”  By the end of this course, you will have become proficient in interpreting material from the minute a script, speech or research material is put in your hand up to your final bow. You will learn how to choose material that is appropriate for you and in the process add material to your performance toolbox that will be ready at a moment’s notice.

The workshop costs $200.00. Payment is expected at time of registration. Once a student is registered, class materials are sent in advance of the first session.

Those individuals who successfully complete the 7- week course are invited to join our Friday Night Advanced Acting and Pre-production class. Why is this class important? Because if you do not get the opportunity to put into practice what you learn in the seven-week course, your training will be incomplete. It is one thing to “talk” about acting; it is an entirely different thing to actually act.

While there is no rule that a student must be present every Friday evening, those wanting to achieve a higher level of proficiency should consider this option. The people in Friday night’s class are the performers in our shows. They hone their skills in front of live audiences. Trust me… once you hear the applause, your level of self-confidence will reach unimaginable heights.
